Polish bass Arkadiusz Jakus is recognized for his dark, resonant timbre and commanding stage presence — qualities that define the finest basso serio tradition.
Born in Sandomierz, Poland, Jakus studied at the Academy of Music in Łódź under Prof. Włodzimierz Zalewski and Ziemowit Wojtczak, before completing advanced training with the celebrated bass Andrzej Saciuk — a singer who performed alongside Montserrat Caballé and Plácido Domingo on the world’s greatest stages. A twice-awarded recipient of the Elisabeth Luxtion Memorial Scholarship, Jakus has consistently demonstrated both vocal distinction and artistic discipline.
From 2019 to 2023, he was a resident soloist at Teatr Wielki in Łódź, making his debut as Don Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia and building a wide-ranging repertoire spanning Mozart, Verdi, Rossini, and Tchaikovsky. Guest engagements took him to Opera Wrocławska and to concert stages with the Münchner Philharmoniker at the Gasteig, the Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Die Glocke Bremen, and major festival stages including Bad Hersfeld and the Lilienthal Festspiele.
Since September 2023, Jakus has been a permanent ensemble member at Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern, where his current season includes acclaimed portrayals of Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni, Colline in La Bohème, and the world premiere production of Dead Man Walking (George Benton).
